Warriors reporter Anthony Slater discussed the team's offseason moves in a podcast, stating that players like Jonathan Kuminga are highly likely to stay. Meanwhile, although the Warriors aggressively pursued Lauri Markkanen last year, they are unlikely to continue the chase this summer.

Warriors reporters Anthony Slater and Kawakami co-hosted a podcast. When talking about the team's young players, Slater said the Warriors won't invest heavily in a shooting center this summer, so it's expected that Trayce Jackson-Davis (TJD) — who barely saw court time last season — and James Wiseman will stay. Most importantly, the controversial Kuminga is also expected to remain with Golden State.
Kuminga will become a restricted free agent this summer. After the Warriors issue a qualifying offer, other teams can make bids, and Golden State holds the right to match. Notably, the Collective Bargaining Agreement includes a "Base Year Compensation" rule: if Kuminga signs a new contract this summer, the Warriors can only count half of his new salary when using him in trade matching, limiting their flexibility for sign-and-trade deals. However, after the new contract protection period ends in December, Golden State can use his full salary for trade matching, suggesting potential moves might occur then.
Additionally, according to reporter Rob Murrows, the Warriors and Gary Payton II are mutually interested in a contract extension. Golden State hopes to re-sign Payton II at a pay cut. His 2024-25 salary was $9.13 million. He helped the Warriors win the championship in 2022, briefly played for the Trail Blazers, and quickly returned to Golden State.

Previously reported, the Jazz will listen to offers for Markkanen this summer. The Warriors pursued him last offseason, but he refused to leave Utah and signed a four-year, $195 million extension. Slater noted that despite once craving Markkanen, the Warriors are unlikely to pursue him this summer.
In this year's playoffs, the Warriors lost 1-4 to the Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals. How do you think the Warriors can operate to get closer to a championship? Share your thoughts in the comments!
