Still, many teams remain eager to acquire Durant. The Timberwolves appear to be the top destination, per recent leaks. Reporter Zach Lowe noted: "Everyone’s discussing Durant’s future. If I had to rank the rumor tiers for his next team, the Timberwolves are first, followed by the Rockets—they’re in the highest tier."

The Timberwolves’ interest in Durant is an open secret, while the Rockets’ stance remains unclear. Commentator Bill Simmons suggested Houston should monitor the Milwaukee Bucks: if things go south, Giannis Antetokounmpo could request a mid-season trade. Additionally, reporter Ary revealed that Rockets coach Ime Udoka shows interest in Durant, but he and GM Rafael Stone differ in their long-term visions.
